FRANCHISE GUIDE

Franchise Consultant Near You: Areas We Serve

Short answer: David Busker is a franchise consultant based in St. Louis who works with candidates across the USA and Canada. He works most often with candidates in Dallas, Houston, Orlando, Tampa, Charlotte, Atlanta, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Denver, Salt Lake City, Phoenix and Nashville. He also serves New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto, Washington, DC and smaller markets across the U.S. His services are free to candidates.

Key takeaways

  • U.S. and Canada, by video: I am based in St. Louis but the process is the same wherever you live.
  • Territory availability is local. I check your exact market before introducing any brand.
  • Registration states: 13 states require franchisors to register before selling there. I confirm a brand can sell in yours.
  • Free to you in every market: franchisors pay the consultant if you sign.

How I work with candidates outside St. Louis

St. Louis is my home market, but most of my work happens nationwide, so where you live doesn’t limit what we can do together. The process is the same everywhere:

  1. Video consultation to set your goals, investment level and lifestyle criteria.
  2. Territory checks for your exact market, down to zip codes, before I introduce any brand.
  3. Validation calls with franchisees, including owners in markets like yours where possible.
  4. Discovery Day at the franchisor’s headquarters or by video, then your decision.

Availability is local even when the brand is national: a franchise can be sold out in one suburb and wide open in the next. That is why the territory check comes first. How franchise territories work.

Metros where I work with candidates most often

Franchise consultant for Dallas–Fort Worth

Dallas–Fort Worth has one of the country’s largest concentrations of corporate headquarters, and many candidates I work with here are executives weighing a move from corporate leadership to ownership. Fast suburban growth across the metro creates demand for home services, children’s enrichment and fitness concepts. Popular brands fill territories quickly here, so I check availability before you invest time in any brand.

Franchise consultant for Houston

Houston is a sprawling metro, so drive times matter as much as population when service brands draw territories. Many energy-sector professionals look at franchising to diversify their income or plan an exit from a cyclical industry. The climate keeps HVAC, restoration, roofing and pest-control services in steady demand.

“His approach is educational for those without experience with these business types. He’s willing to ‘meet you where you are.’ … He presented a menu of great investment choices selected by my goals and preferences.”

— Shawn P., Houston, TX

“I went in with very little intent to buy a franchise and David found me a situation that seemed perfect for me so I bought in.”

— John B., Houston, TX

Franchise consultant for Orlando

Orlando’s population growth and expanding suburbs suit service brands that serve new neighborhoods, from home services to children’s education. Its large hospitality workforce is worth considering when you evaluate staffing for location-based concepts, and seasonal tourism patterns belong in your validation questions.

Franchise consultant for Tampa Bay

The Tampa Bay area’s in-migration and large retiree population make senior care and home services natural fits. Storm exposure keeps restoration and roofing brands active, so ask franchisees about hurricane season, insurance and seasonality during validation calls.

Franchise consultant for Charlotte

Charlotte is a major banking and financial-services center, so many candidates I meet here come from finance and corporate leadership. Semi-active models, run day to day by a general manager, appeal to candidates who plan to keep their roles while they build a business. The metro extends into South Carolina, so some territories cross state lines.

Franchise consultant for Atlanta

Atlanta combines a deep bench of corporate headquarters with a major logistics economy. Its size and traffic make territory maps and drive times especially important for service brands. Established brands may already have franchisees in the core, while fast-growing suburbs often have more openings.

Franchise consultant for Kansas City

Kansas City is close to my St. Louis base and a market I know well. The metro spans Missouri and Kansas, so territories often cross the state line. Lower occupancy costs than coastal metros help the economics of location-based concepts.

Franchise consultant for Philadelphia

Greater Philadelphia is a dense, multi-state metro covering Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. Its older housing stock supports home-improvement and repair concepts. Territory checks here need to account for state lines and for brands that are already well established in the region.

Franchise consultant for Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh’s economy is anchored by healthcare and higher education, and the region has an older housing stock and an aging population. That mix supports senior care and home services. Many candidates here want a business they can lead without leaving the region.

Franchise consultant for Cleveland

Cleveland’s healthcare-heavy economy, aging population and older homes support senior care, restoration and home-repair brands. Lower costs than coastal metros help the numbers for location-based concepts.

Franchise consultant for Cincinnati

Cincinnati is home to several Fortune 500 consumer-goods and retail headquarters, so many candidates here come from marketing, sales and operations leadership. The metro spans Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Indiana is a franchise registration state, so I confirm a brand can sell in your state as part of the territory check.

Franchise consultant for Indianapolis

Indianapolis has a central location and a logistics-heavy economy. Indiana is one of 13 franchise registration states, where a franchisor must register its disclosure document with the state before selling there, so I confirm a brand’s Indiana status before we spend time on it.

Franchise consultant for Denver

Denver’s growth and active lifestyle create strong demand for fitness, wellness and outdoor-oriented concepts as well as home services. High home values support premium residential services, and high commercial rents make service brands without a storefront attractive.

“He guided me through the whole process of finding, validating, and signing with a franchisor. David was very helpful during the whole process with my endless list of questions.”

— Michael G., Denver, CO

“His balanced guidance made me feel comfortable and confident from beginning to end. He was easy to work with and did an excellent job understanding my motivations.”

— Adam R., Denver, CO

Franchise consultant for Salt Lake City

Utah has the youngest median age of any state, and the Salt Lake area’s family-heavy suburbs support children’s education and enrichment brands. Fast growth along the Wasatch Front also keeps home-service brands busy.

Franchise consultant for Phoenix

Phoenix combines rapid growth, a large retiree population and an extreme summer climate. HVAC, pool service, pest control and senior care are natural fits, and seasonal patterns belong in your validation calls with franchisees.

Franchise consultant for Nashville

Nashville is one of the fastest-growing metros in the Southeast and a national hub for the healthcare industry, so many candidates I meet here come from healthcare management and corporate leadership. Rapid growth in suburbs such as Franklin, Brentwood and Murfreesboro supports home services, children’s enrichment and fitness concepts. Popular brands can fill territories quickly in growth corridors, so availability is the first thing I check.

“He provided me ample information to make an informed decision about franchises that were within my range. … He was there every step of the way to answer any questions, provide information and insight to help me feel more comfortable with making my selection.”

— Nathan A., Nashville, TN

— Cliff G., Providence, RI

Smaller markets and rural areas

I also work with candidates in smaller metro areas and rural markets across the country. Many service brands size territories for smaller populations, and some of the best territory availability is outside the largest metros, so a smaller market can be an advantage.

Candidates I’ve worked with have opened franchises in markets such as Rogers, Arkansas; Des Moines, Iowa; Melbourne, St. Augustine and Fort Myers, Florida; and Portland, Maine.

“After just a few short months of working with David he found us the perfect Franchise for our area.”

— Kyle W., Rogers, AR

“He provided valuable resources, was always available as needed, and helped ease many of my concerns as someone new to entrepreneurship. … He also connected me with financial partners, which helped simplify the process significantly.”

“He’s very knowledgeable about the process and found the perfect franchise for us! … This has been life changing for us.”

— Amanda S., Fort Myers, FL

“Dave has a tremendous amount of knowledge that he is willing to share openly and act as a guide in the process of franchise discovery.”

— Eric G., Portland, ME

Franchise consultant for Toronto and Canada

I also work with franchise candidates in Canada, most often in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. As Canada’s largest metro and its main financial and corporate center, Toronto has many executives exploring ownership, and fast-growing suburbs such as Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham and Oakville support home services, children’s education and fitness concepts. The process is the same as in the U.S.: video consultations, territory checks for your market, validation calls and Discovery Day. A few things work differently in Canada:

  • Brand availability: not every U.S. franchise sells in Canada, so I confirm a brand is actively franchising there and has open territory before we spend time on it.
  • Disclosure rules: Ontario’s Arthur Wishart Act requires franchisors to give you a disclosure document at least 14 days before you sign or pay anything. Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island have their own franchise disclosure laws.
  • Funding: U.S. options such as SBA loans and 401(k) rollovers don’t apply. Canadian candidates typically use bank financing, including loans under the government-backed Canada Small Business Financing Program, plus personal capital.

Franchise registration states

Thirteen states require franchisors to register their Franchise Disclosure Document with the state before offering franchises there: California, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin. Occasionally a brand isn’t yet registered in a particular state. I confirm a brand can sell in your state before we spend time on it.

Don’t see your city? If you’re in the United States or Canada, I can very likely help. Book a free intro call and I’ll check availability for your area.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a franchise consultant in my own city?

No. Franchise consulting is done mostly by video and phone. What matters is that your consultant checks territory availability for your specific market and knows the brands, which I do for candidates anywhere in the United States.

Which cities does David Busker work with most often?

Besides St. Louis, David Busker works most often with franchise candidates in Dallas, Houston, Orlando, Tampa, Charlotte, Atlanta, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Denver, Salt Lake City, Phoenix and Nashville. How do you check franchise territory availability in my area?

Before introducing a brand, I confirm with the franchisor which territories are open in your market, often down to specific zip codes. You only spend time on brands you can actually open where you live.

What are franchise registration states?

Thirteen states require franchisors to register their Franchise Disclosure Document before selling there: California, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin. A brand that isn’t registered in your state can’t sell you a franchise there yet.

Does it cost more to work with a franchise consultant from another city?

No. My services are free to candidates everywhere. Franchisors pay the consultant if you sign, and using a consultant does not increase your franchise cost.

Do you work with franchise candidates in Canada?

Yes. David Busker works with candidates across Canada by video, most often in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. He confirms that each brand is franchising in Canada and has open territory in your market. Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island have franchise disclosure laws, and Ontario requires the disclosure document at least 14 days before you sign or pay.
